Last week a fallen marine was brought home to rest in the upstate of South Carolina. He has paid the ultimate price and given his life for those he loved, the United States citizens. He was Lance Corporal Christopher Fowlkes. A roadside bomb in Afghanistan killed him. He is a hero and I ask everyone to take a moment and thank God for young men like him willing to sacrifice so much for the country they love. I would also like to ask for prayers for his family. I can't imagine what they must feel to lose someone so young and be so proud of the sacrifice he made at the same time.
Brenda Earls wanted to pay respect to the fallen hero and his family by flying American flags along the streets of the route the casket would take through Gaffney SC. She lined the streets downtown but there was a gap in the flags in front of The Bank of America. The branch manager pulled the flags citing "company policy" Earls said the manager told her that the flags might offend some customers. "The American flags?" Earls recalled saying in disbelief. The branch manager then said, "This is a financial institution and this is our policy." The bank corporate office says that this is not true and that flags are flown at offices around the country. I have seen no evidence of this locally as none of the three branches I pass regularly fly the national colors for which they are named. I have heard that the Gaffney branch, the location that started the controversy is now flying the American flag.
Blowback about this has been huge locally. Many people have closed their accounts with the bank in the aftermath. Cherokee county counsel voted and moved its assets from the franchise after a councilman went into a branch and noticed the empty flagstaff. This cost the bank an estimated $500,000.00. If all council members follow suit it will cost an estimated 1.5 million in deposits. I am proud of these people for doing more than just complaining. This bank has accepted 45 million dollars in stimulus money from the United States and won't fly the flag of the country that has given it so much. These people are idiots. They should not be in business. I would like to encourage everyone to withdraw his or her funds from the Bank of America. They have already almost gone out of business once and with people like this at the helm will be in the same mess again soon.
Political correctness has gotten out of hand. How can people be concerned that the American flag will offend others in America? If that is the case should we not change our flag? Hell, why not change our name? I love my country and I am sure that others from around the world are just as proud of their country as I am mine. Communism and slavery offend me so I don't go to China. If America or democracy or the American people offend you don't come to America. It is time for Americans to start acting like Americans. This was once the greatest country on earth because we were proud of who we were. We did what was right, listened to the people and were not afraid to help those in need. We accepted anyone. We gave them freedoms they could only dream of in other countries. We haven't always been perfect but we were willing to try. Now people want to take away our fundamental rights by telling us that God is offensive or that because I own a gun I am a terrorist. Now our flag, the image that says who we are, and the image that has always told the world "WE ARE FREE!!!" is offensive. It just makes me sick. I have with drawn my funds, limited as they are, from the Bank of America and will do no more business with them. Will you follow me?
Steven is a self proclaimed right wing Christian extremist. He is a former Marine and currently work in the laboratory of a cancer research and treatment facility. He is the father of two little girls and is referred to as genius by his wife (mostly as a sarcastic term of endearment!)
A great article Steven and I am with you all the way. Ive never done business with Bank of America, but now I wish I had with that branch, so I could close out my account. I have just recently posted an article about our men and women in service a little similar to this one. Wednesday is veteran's day and I hope everyone will say a prayer for troops, and the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.
