It's a beautiful thing to behold. More and more people seem to be focusing their attentions on saving the world. There are a myriad of non-profits and even large companies that set aside monies to donate to charitable organizations in an attempt to make things a little better. The rich and famous donate time and money to their causes, aware that they have the power to not only affect change, but to bring light to the many. It surely is a beautiful thing.
But there's something else that seems to be going on here, and I wonder how many people have thought about it. Or how many are even aware of it. That is: what world are you trying to save?
Hear me out for a minute.
Are you trying to save the world that is consumed by greed? The world that is ruled by angry, power-hungry men who use fear to control the masses? The world that is full of hate and violence and unspeakable horrors where children and women and elderly people are daily raped, tortured and murdered? Where genocide continues? The world that encourages the rich to control governments and the poor to live hopeless lives? The world where racism and hate crimes are the norm? The world that continues to enslave peoples and destroy the planet and launch satellites into the sky in order to monitor every single thing that goes on around the globe?
Is THIS the world you're trying to save?
WHY????
Why would you want to save such a world when it seems so obvious that this paradigm needs to die? Why would you wish to allow any of this insanity to continue? Why would you expend energy and love on saving such a world? Does it not seem a much better idea to just let it die? Let it implode upon itself so we can make way for the new paradigm? Does this not make more 'sense'?
As near as I can tell, death is a means of rebirth. Every thing has its time...and when that time is done, something new is born. This is the way of nature. Of God. Of All That Is. There can be no rebirth without death. There can be no growth without change. There can be no new paradigm until the old is gone. Perhaps this is what the hub-bub around 2012 is all about. Perhaps the Mayans knew all along that the only way we could evolve into more enlightened beings was to see an end to the old ways. But there are so many who want us to believe that 2012 is going to be the 'end of the world'. As in we're going to blow up the whole planet and there will be nothing left but a charred, desolate ball floating through space, uninhabitable by anything but cockroaches and venereal disease. And maybe some armadillos.
There's that fear again. Fear being fed to us like candy to a kid who's never had a steak. Fear that keeps us from seeing what this New Age of Thinking is about to deliver. Of course "they" don't want us to hope. They want to hang on for as long as they can because they know that when the dust settles they're going to be S.O.L. (for those of you who don't know what that stands for: Shit Outta Luck). It's a pretty common pattern: when the King is about to be ousted, he ups the ante and pushes even harder to maintain control. It didn't work for the Roman Empire. It didn't work for Hitler. It didn't work for Saddam Hussein. It didn't work for any of those hateful, short-sighted, power mongers whose atrocities are too atrocious to detail.
And...it isn't working now.
The new paradigm is unfolding, whether the Big Boys like it or not (and you can be sure, they do NOT .) The ball has been set into motion. The love is growing and growing and reaching across this vast planet, gathering steam and spreading like moss in a rain forest. Beautiful, lush, life-giving moss. And when the dust does finally settle, the world so many are trying to 'save' is going to be gone. From those ashes, a brand new world will have been born. A world devoid of hate and greed and horror. A world full of beings who see that our evolution as a species required this Old World to die. A world that will flourish in love and joy and abundance for all. A world I pray I will see before I leave this magnificent body of flesh...that's filled with love for all humanity.
Brilliantly put! Recently, when I made the comment that I was never going to save the world and would probably just mess it up even more anyway, I wasn't referring to keeping it as it is. So I'm really with you on this one. I'd like to help save the world from itself and the way things are headed. But I think way more people are going to have to come on board before any progress can be made.
I want a world where nonhuman animals have a place of importance right beside humans. Where humans treat ALL living things with respect. I want a world that is healthy and happy. Growing, improving and clean. Not abusive of life and not mean and selfish. That's asking a lot, I know.
I hope that it is as Eckhart Tolle asserts and that as people create better lives for them selves (and I'm not talking about better as defined by more possessions or more money) that it will make it easier for others to do the same.
A thought provoking article to be sure. If you ask Richard Dawkins, things like compassion really are a left over from the process of evolution. Even if a person has nothing to gain from "doing good" many people still have an inherent need to do so anyway - it is part of what helpled us evolve as a species. Don't know if I agree, but it is a theory as good as any I guess.
Hi Camille, "Where there are armadillos, there is hope" is my motto! Thought provoking indeed as Erwin says above. Might make an interesting companion piece to the 2012 movie that will be descending upon us soon. Julian
Hi Camille, glad you got an armadillo giggle! The movie (you may have already looked it up by now) is the big hollywood movie out in november called 2012 and about that whole mayan, end of the world theory. Its directed by the guy who did "The Day After Tomorrow". Hope that helps! Julian
Thanks, Julian. I saw the first trailer last night...and, for what it's worth, this Hollywood hype is NOT what the Mayan calendar is about...but then...hope doesn't sell. Fear does. Oh well. Just one more for the masses.
My thanks, Gregory. Keep coming back for more. And feel free to use my pieces on your own site. If what I 'think' helps even one person to shift perspective, my job is done. I do appreciate it.
