As a new mother, the last thing you want to worry about are the dangers posed by the ingredients in the products you use in the care of your newborn. A lot of young mothers believe that the baby products we see on store shelves must be safe, otherwise they wouldn't be there right? In an ideal world this would be true, but we do not live in an ideal world. It is our responsibility as mothers to ensure that the baby care products we are using are safe for our little ones.

The skin of a newborn baby is extremely delicate, as you are probably aware. In the first few month of life, your baby's immune system is still developing and adapting to life outside the womb. Exposure to chemicals and other potential allergens in the first few months of life can cause a lifetime of allergy-related health complications. Harsh chemicals and fragrances commonly found in baby skin care products can cause skin irritation, dryness, and rashes. The old adage "Less is More" most certainly applies when it comes to skin care for your little one. The following are three of my favorite organic baby skin care products:

Erbaviva Baby Shampoo is absolutely wonderful! It is extremely gentle on your newborn's skin, cleansing and protecting without the use of harsh chemicals and detergents. It contains absolutely no harsh, irritating chemicals. It's main ingredients include olivoil glutinate (a derivative of olive oil), wheat proteins and quilaja tree bark extract, and it is scented ever-so-slightly with organic lavender and chamomile.

The Weleda Baby Starter Kit is a perfect introduction to the Calendula baby collection. Weleda is a well-respected company from Germany, known for producing some of the highest quality organic skin care products in the world. The starter kit includes Calendula Baby Cream, Diaper Care, Shampoo / Body Wash, Baby Lotion, and Baby Oil. This wonderful wee collection is great for travel and stores well in a diaper bag, too.

Dr. Bronner's Unscented Baby Mild Soap is a must-have for your newborn's skin care needs. It is free from perfumes, dyes, chemicals, and synthetic ingredients of any sort, and is comprised of 100% biodegradable, vegetable-based ingredients. It is USDA certified organic, and fair trade certified. Key ingredients include organic olive, coconut, hemp, and jojoba oils. You'll both feel great after using this wonderful baby skin care product from Dr. Bronner's.

Emily Gladwell is committed to helping others make healthy, educated consumer choices. Some of her favorite organic skin care products include erbaviva baby shampoo, moom organic hair removal kit, and dr. hauschka facial toner
