I came across an article looking for a project to make in my beginners Ceramic class. This article really touched me in a way that people have to live with every day in a third World country.

Fast becoming the stable of culinary delight in Haiti, the humble mudcakes has a resurgence

in international cusisine since the African famine in the 80's look what fills the acking tomies of the Hatians.

Recipe:Haitian Mud Cakes

Ingredients:

  1. Salt
  2. Margarine
  3. Dirt
  4. Water

Instructions:

  1. One part salt
  2. one part margarine and mix with
  3. 10 parts dirt
  4. 5 parts water
  5. Mix my hand to firm density then craft into a cake shake
  6. Place in preheated oven 180 degrees celsius for 20 minutes until firm (but not brittle)
  7. Serve at room temperature
Seriously?

Well what can we say to people that are starving. The Mud cakes can be a staple here for all the homeless and unfortunate people that are living on our streets without a bit to eat. The Mud cakes is enjoying a resurgence in much demand in Haiti as food prices soar the only way to fill those awful hunger pains.

At only a few cents Haitians unable to afford basic food source and the U.N. backed aid distribution not working well for many of the Haitians that need it, mud cakes, are the only way to stave off hunger pains for so many.

When your family is in need, or your kids want to give you a hard time about nothing to eat .Time to serve up this Mud cake recipe.

Enjoy!

Robert Wright.

Hi Robert.

Welcome to the Searchwarp Community!

I have felt that hunger pain you mentioned in your article when I was growing up. A cup of rice, boiled with salt. Four ingredients: rice, water, salt and a prayer for a family of ten.  Life has changed, not so much for material things but for a family that cared, loved and supported each other.

Your article is brief and concise but you have delivered the message.

Thank you.

Best to you and yours,

Nenita

Hi Nenita, Thanks for you comment. I think from your poem and comment you can see that fourth ingredient shining through. The rice, water, and salt feeds the body, and the fourth ingredient feeds the soul and made a complete family well feed. Thanks Robert!

HI Robert, welcome to searchwarp, this makes a big statement. Good job dealing with a sad situation. Should make us Americans more grateful and compassionate toward those who have less. Much less. Blessings to you! Teresa

A prolific writer I am not, but I feel compassion for subjects within the art. As a new writer here, I thought that I would peruse through the articles here to make a comment or two to fulfill my requirement. Your article touched my spirit. It took me away from my computer for a while to ponder the gist of what you had to share with each of us. As I pondered, I felt the reality of the vision now present in my mind> I felt the near hopelessness many live through daily, but not me. Thinking also, do human beings like us truly do this? I also envision from the picture, ways we can truly help.

If you are reading this, you have been abundantly blessed. I am thankful I have the opportunity to claim this same blessing. We live our lives everyday, busy, distracted, preoccupied with the cares of our own lives, without the thought of feeling others unfortunate situations. Out of site, out of mind. Television fund raising programs and the evening news presents some of this to us from time to time, and then soon it moves on, then it’s gone. Did it touch us? Did it help to make a difference in us? Your article, in this venue helped to make a difference in me. Thank you.

Thanks Pam for the review of the article and welcome to SearchWarp. It touched me in the same matter as yourself, it still ponders with me also. We as Americans have the same problem here in the United States as homeless people pushing around grocery baskets full of there belongings that they refuse to let go. I see the numbers here in California increasing daily. Most can't receive aid because of some petty crime on there records years ago like a drug charge for smoking marijuana. This will deny them of food aid. Most have very little education so filling out an application is way to hard for them. They live in tents or in front of Salvation Army "the one that feeds and shelters them" from the rare elements that face them daily. Does any one care any more? Are we a Third World Country? God, help us help those that need food, clothes, and a shelter to live in. In your name and I pray AMEN!!!

Robert:

A mud cake is such a simple food, yet it can be a culinary treat for so many. In reading this article, it made me feel so grateful, for all the things I have, and sometimes take for granted.

By the way welcome to SearchWarp, I hope you will enjoy the literary ride you have embarked on.

Best Wishes
