Many people are stuck in front of a computer screen for the bulk of their days.  Probably a large majority of people that are reading this article find themselves in this situation.  There isn't anything wrong with having a desk job that is fun and pays well.  The downside of these types of jobs comes from the lack of movement that they create.  Many days' people could spend the entire day sitting down at their desk in front of their computer with little to no reason to move.  This lack of movement and physical activity can lead to problems of weight gain.  Especially for people that might have already had weight problems before starting their office job.  Here are some suggestions for how you might exercise more around the office and get the movement you need.

When you park in the morning, try to find a parking spot away from your building.  Studies have shown that this simple step can really provide some dramatic results.  It will add an increase in your cardio exercise that you have each day.  If you will use the same principle when you drive to lunch, you will add at least four short walks to your daily schedule.

Likewise if you have the choice between the stairs and elevator be sure to add the stairs.  The stairs will provide a constant incline resistance workout that will burn a surprising amount of calories every time that you take them.

Start to use the water cooler at the office.  Avoid drinking carbonated beverages.  Even if you switch from drinking regular soft drinks and start to drink diet, studies have shown that artificial sweeteners many times are more harmful to a diet than natural sugar.  Drinking water has been shown to increase the effectiveness of weight loss programs and to help with a person's overall health and appearance.  While at the office have a small water container that you can fill, but not a huge mammoth jug that you only fill once a day.  The need to refill your water throughout the day will help you to find time to walk away from you desk and get moving around.  If it is possible try to find the water cooler that is furthest away from you and fill up there.  It is important, since you are at work, to not be goofing around too much.  Or it will look as if you are merely trying to slack off instead of doing activities to improve your health.

Another way to improve your health around the office is by eating more healthy food.  It is easy to have lots of snacks around the office that are loaded in fats and calories.  There aren't very many things that you can get out of a vending machine that will give you the nutrients that you need in your diet.  It is smart when trying to lose weight to increase the amount of protein in your diet.  You can use whey based protein supplements as a meal replacement, or a quick snack.  Protein and exercise lead to creation of lean muscles which helps you to lose weight.  The body almost never converts protein into fat, so you don't have to be worried about the calories that you are picking up from the protein supplements.  It is also a good idea to have something healthy that you can snack on during the day.  Carrot and celery sticks provide energy to your body without adding too much sugar and calories.

Just because you are stuck in front of a computer screen in a cubical for your job doesn't mean that you can't find ways to help you to lose weight.  If you were to make a lot of little changes in your normal work day, then those little changes will lead to big results.
