Want a quality water filter? I don't blame you. If you are particularly concerned about drinking water safety, you would have heard some things that are as scary as hell.

Headlines like, "Drugs Found In Drinking Water and, " The EPA Won't Remove Rocket Fuel From Drinking Water." Can you believe it, rocket fuel of all things. How on God's green earth did that reach our water supply?

Thank goodness that there are water filtration systems available to protect you from the serious consequences of drinking water contaminants.

What Are Quality Water Filters?

A good water filtration system is one that does what you want it to do. You see, there are many filtering technologies out there with varying degrees of capabilities.

Many consumers who are looking to improve water safety forget this and end up buying filtration devices that are incapable of removing the drinking water contaminants that they are most concerned about.

For example, if you are concerned with microbes in drinking water, then getting a reverse osmosis home water purifier won't help you. It is totally inadequate for this purpose. It will however remove water hardness and many chemicals from your tap water. If you want to remove microbes from tap water, you'll need a ultraviolet water purification system or distiller.

Another thing that is crucial in determining a quality water filter, is its certification. If you want to know exactly what contaminants a water filtration unit can remove and by how much, certification will tell you this.

Certification is carried out by the NSF, The National Sanitation Foundation as well as State Health Departments and reputable independent labs.

Any reputable supplier will provide certification proof on his website or place of business. However, if you want to verify a supplier's certification, check with the NSF database on their website.

Example of Certification.

One some manufacturer's website, you might see that a filter is certified to NSF 53. This tells you that the device is capable of removing lead, synthetic chemicals and waterborne parasites like cryptosporidium and giardia. Or you might see some purification units certified to NSF 42, which means that it can remove chlorine, bad odor, taste and particulates.

Certification, is the best assurance a consumer can get that he is about to acquire a quality water filter.

What To Do Now.

Drinking water contaminants are no laughing matter if you family consumers them whenever they drink water.

There might be no harm done in the short term when contaminated tap water is consumed. However scientists have become increasingly concerned about the long term effects of drinking tap water contaminated with chemicals and chlorine.

Municipal water treatment has its limitations, so the only way to give your family added protection against drinking water contaminants is to get a quality water filter.

Do your homework and find out as much as possible about the various filtering technologies. Then get a water filter today for healthier, cleaner and tastier tap water

If you want to drink the cleanest and purest water, you need a home water treatment system now. We research these devices and tell you which are most effective in achieving safe drinking water for your family. All this and more at http://www.best-water-filter-guide.com
