The first thing that you will want to know about your yellow Lab puppy is that once he is full grown his life expectancy is about 15 years but some can live as long as 20, but that is more of the exception than the rule. The point here is that getting a dog is a lifetime commitment. This is important so that you have a clear understanding of what it is like to own a dog so you do not get tired of the novelty.

Yellow Labradors are a very intelligent breed. They are very trainable and they have a placid nature. This makes them ideal companions for handicapped people, and many Labradors are bought for this purpose. They are also fantastic choices for families that have children.

The Yellow Labrador Retriever is part of the canine group that is considered the Gundog group which means that they were originally to work closely with man to be sociable because they have a good retrieving instinct. Make some careful considerations before you choose to buy a Yellow Lab for a puppy. First, consider where you live and make sure that you have a big enough yards, if you are home a lot, and are you up for the high energy that the Yellow Lab gives off.

What is it that you expect from your dog, what kind of experience do you expect? Do you want a high energy dog or a more laid back one? If you are buying a Yellow Lab for your child you might want to reconsider because it is unreasonable to expect your child to take full responsibility for a dog. Also, never buy a dog on impulse. Make your decision carefully, as a dog is a commitment that lasts a lifetime.

Labrador Retrievers, especially Yellow Labradors have been within the top five most popular dog breeds for the last few decades. Yellow Labs possess all of the well loved and desired traits of a family dog. Yellow Labs make great therapy dogs, service dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, and seeing-eye dogs. Only Golden Retrievers rival them in ability and popularity.

Before you get you're Yellow Lab or if you already have your puppy you should understand that there are different kinds of Yellow Labs. Probably the most popular variety of Yellow Lab is the English variety. They are shorter and stockier; they have a broader head and a shorter nose and many believe that they are also the most beautiful Labs.

There is also a Yellow Lab pup that is called the "pointer" because they make great bird hunters so that is a choice you might want to consider if you are looking for a hunting partner. These Yellow Labs are being bred to instinctively point. The look of this specific Yellow Lab breed will be a bit taller and thinner with movements that more resemble an Irish setter than a Lab.

All in all, you will likely come to the conclusion that the Yellow Lab pup is a wonderful choice for a pet.
