"Drag your thoughts away from your troubles....by the ears, by the heels, or any other way you can manage it." --- Mark Twain
For the home computer repair amateur/enthusiast a static strap, often referred to as a "shocking component", is essential and cheap. It is one sure way to ensure that you will not build up an electric static discharge (e.s.d.) while working on your computer.
Minimizes E.S.D
Precautions such as static straps are recommended when working with e.s.d sensitive devices such as your computer memory/motherboard/graphic cards and other such sensitive equipment.
If you have a static problem around your home a static strap is always a good idea when dealing with electronics. A static strap is also a long rubber strip that we dangle from our car's rear bumper. Even our automobiles need some type of extra protection.
Straps For People
Following the above line of reasoning it only makes sense that people should have access to personalized static/stress straps that would protect them not only from the daily hassles and pressures of everyday life but also provide extra protection from the added pressure a person experiences as the year end approaches.
A few relevant facts to digest at this stage of the game. Labor Day marked the official end of the summer season. No more outdoor Bar-B-Ques. No lawns to trim and fuss over. Bring in the lawn chairs and store the patio furniture. Close up and secure the summer cottage till next year.
Busy Social Calendar
Columbus Day, acting as a type of annual holiday bookmark, is sandwiched neatly between Labor Day and Remembrance Day. The end of the year is almost here and you have to plan for the upcoming events: Halloween festivities, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas family gatherings and of course the often dreaded New Years Eve office party. This is an awful lot of celebrating to have compressed into so short a period of time!
The pressure of the upcoming social situations and the increased need to get everything accomplished on time takes its toll on a person's health and psyche. Many folks tend to increase their alcohol consumption, smoke more cigarettes and pop more pills to help them stay relaxed, focused and on top of things.
Specially Targeted Markets
The proposed straps on the other hand could be readily advertised nationally and have its niche market appeal to singles, married couples, empty nesters, divorced people and of course retirees and students.
Each diverse targeted group would be represented and have slick advertising campaigns created especially for them. Upgradeable family sized packs would also be offered.
Designer colors, labels and logos would be offered as these festive straps can be worn on the ankle for the ladies or clipped easily to a man's oxford, loafer, work boot or exercise footwear.
Would It not make more sense for the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow creative researchers to develop and mass produce these psychological stress straps for people at this time of the year?
Lobbyists Would Whine
I am quite certain that special interest groups and their highly paid lobbyists in Washington would try to quash the creation of such prophylactic devices. The cigarette manufacturers would mumble about unfair advantage.
The alcohol bottlers and producers would threaten the country with unprecedented employee layoffs and facility closures; the understanding pharmaceutical companies would be up in arms about the safety of such devices and pressure the FDA to halt production of the straps until such a time as they were proven safe.
Tradition Solutions The Best
The interest groups mentioned above and other outraged groups would invariably argue in closed court or before a non televised congressional hearing that the stress associated with the upcoming holiday season was perfectly normal and that the proven and traditional ways of handling this stress still provides the best and the safest solution!
