Need some family entertainment ideas to get people off their seats and on the road? Well you could look in your newspaper on Fridays to check out the "weekend entertainment" section. This lets you check out which restaurants have the best burger prices, and you get to see what types of events are planned for the weekend.

Kids even have the chance to see what movies are playing so they can campaign for the one they like best. After all it will be up to them to try and convince their parents that there is some real value in a movie. It is a well known fact that parents and kids do not always see eye to eye about movies and music, so this is when clever persuasion is needed.

Kids can shift the balance of power in their direction when they concentrate on family friendly activities that advertise free admission. No matter what the event is going to be parents will be more likely to agree when free admission is involved. Why? Well, everyone knows that parents have a hard time passing up any Freebie.

This a time when you remind yourself, "Dude, you just can't lose!" If there is an exhibit that features Freaky Facts and Gross Wonders your parents may be a bit reluctant until you tell them there is free admission. Okay, the cotton candy, hot dogs and snowballs are going to cost a few bucks, but the admission is still FREE.FREE. FREE.

Make any family activity a budget friendly occasion by determining the amount you will spend and how it will be spent before leaving home. There are lots of ways a family can keep the costs low and still have fun. Be sure that you check the online sites for any discounts, coupons or special prices. You can save more money by preparing your snacks and lunch at home and packing them in a cooler for the trip. Remember that no money will be saved by packing your kids in a cooler, even if it would make them fit very nicely in the car.

Some events are cheaper depending on the day and time that you attend. If ticket prices are less expensive during the week kids could let their parents know that they would be willing to skip school in order to help them save a few bucks. This argument probably won't work, but you never know. After all, if you are brave enough to give up school for one day your parents should appreciate your effort.

There are beaches, parks and hiking trails that are perfect places to share a day of family entertainment. You can have a great time outdoors swimming, hiking or practicing Frisbee throws. Fishing is always a fun activity for the family to share and it doesn't require a lot of money.

A fun activity for outdoors is to divide into teams and have a scavenger hunt. Each team can create a list of items for the other team to find. Sure it's fair to include things like ABC (already been chewed) gum and dead beetles. After all if there are more girls on the other team it should be harder for them to win if you list lots of scavenger items that are high on their list of "Gross and Disgusting Things".

Family fun is available at many neighborhood bookstores. There are opportunities to participate in handcrafts, listen to live music or watch puppet shows being performed. Kids can even get to listen to stories being read aloud while their parents browse the shelves or talk with visiting authors.

Did you know that the public library is a good place to go for inexpensive, fun family entertainment? You get a free membership and free admission to all the events. Libraries have shelves full of books on every subject.

Let your kids know just how fascinating a library really is. Where else can you discover incredibly gross facts to share with friends? For instance you can check out some books about insects and find out that cockroaches are not nearly as fast as they seem to be. These creepy crawlers race along at speeds no faster than 3 mph. You can find other weirdly wonderful information at a library including the fact that a cockroach can survive for a week after losing its head, and only dies then from a lack of water. Hmmm, actually these bugs have the type of DNA that pretty much makes them a perfect, low-maintenance pet.
