Jim and I have lived here in The Highlands for over a year now. I still think of this beautiful rolling area in Florida as Paradise. The small-town flavor that I grew up with brings back so much happiness and nostalgia. Every day I discover something new or someone's unique talents.

Here are some of the things that I have learned:

  • There is nothing more beautiful that being up "on the hill" at sunset.
  • Sunny needs more socializing. He went to his first "doggy" birthday party and was very intimidated and shy.
  • My Highland Sisters are always ready to teach me something. I have learned Mah Jongg and Sudoku in the last month or so.
  • That everyone here has a unique talent or place in the sun. It is kind of like a jigsaw puzzle..the pieces all fit together.
  • This is a grandchildren-loving community. Thank you!
  • That I needed our community Bible study as well as the Christian fellowship of the other ladies. It filled a space that I didn't know I had. Thank you, Maureen.
  • Debbie help in the gym has made me physically stronger and much more energetic. Thanks, Debbie.
  • Friends and Angels are Everywhere!
Our book club has forced me to read more. (I have been to Afghanistan and sipped tea with the locals and learned something about their culture by reading, The Three Teas; I have experienced how it would feel like to be a "soul" that could end up in a different body, courtesy of The Host; Just this week, I have been At Home in Mitford and lived through all kinds of miracles, laughter and problems of a middle-aged priest.) I could go on and on about these books and how they have enriched by life. Hmmm. Maybe that could be another column for someone else each month?
