X factor - I don't know about you but last night after watching the X factor I was left with mixed emotions and speechless, a bit like Whitney Houston you could say, after watching both performers Cheryl Cole and Whitney Houston go up against each other on the X factor stage. To be honest I was left totally confused (just like Whitney again,) and maddened over the live performances (supposedly live) by X factor judge Cheryl Cole and the voice (Whitney Houston.)
Here we have two different types of singers, one diva making a comeback, and one divvy promoting her new single. I have nothing against Cheryl Cole but taking advantage of her position as an X factor judge, and then to go on to perform live (but was it live) on the X factor stage to promote her new song is cheating. It was a sneaky move because how many good singers do you know with a fabulous voice that has to beg for a mere 30 seconds of air play. No doubt Cheryl Coles new single will go to number 1 in the music charts, but you wouldn't expect anything else when you have millions of people (those being the viewers of the X factor) backing you all the way. All this free promotion makes it so unfair. Simon Cowells words of support for Cheryl after her performance were that was incredible.'
I have to agree that Cheryl's performance and dance routine was active and lively with some great sexy moves, however, Whitney Houston only had to show her face and took the audience by storm before even opening her mouth. We are talking about a woman now that has class and can sing, but, is Whitney Houston ready for her comeback? Her singing was superb but to get her undivided attention was hard for X factor presenter Dermot who asked Houston questions on stage that were left unanswered. Every time Dermot spoke the delayed response from Whitney told us she isn't 100% fit enough to take centre stage.
If Whitney Houston's circumstances were different, and memories of her past flawless, then I say to Cheryl Cole keep swaying those hips because it's the only way you're going to get noticed. Not a lot of people may like what I have to say, but Coles doesn't have the qualities, or come in the same league to make it as a diva. On this night of the X factor Cheryl gave it her best and I salute her for that...salute being more the fitting word for the way she was dressed, however best is never good enough when we have singers like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Eretha Franklyin, Leona Lewis and the one only just as big as Whitney, is Barbra Streisand. I'm sorry, but Girls Aloud singer gone solo needs to stick with the band.
It must seem to all Cheryl Cole fans that I do not like the girl - how very far from the truth this is. I like her because she is beautiful, can dance and can sing, but not quite as good as those we refer to as singers. I love Cheryl because she's a down to earth girl with no hairs and graces. She knows what hardship is, and in the past had some upset in her marriage to Chelsea football player Ashley Cole. She's overcome all this and went from strength to strength and for this I admire her.
The Simon Cowell we all know and love, or hate, I feel wasn't being as honest as he usually is, meaning, speaking his mind and giving an honest opinion. Had Cheryl been an unknown competitor I think he would have booted her off the show. Was Simon Cowell distracted by her sexiness and beautiful face which diverted his attention away from her voice to say she was incredible? I also noticed Simon Cowell never had much to say, or the gall to be brutish with Whitney. Okay there is no one on this earth could find fault with Whitney Houston's voice, but there was an opening for X factor judge Simon Cowell to comment on her dress falling apart, just like she looked she was doing earlier in the question and answers game with Dermot.
Could it be that she is as big, if not bigger in the music industry than him. Nonetheless, Simon could have taken advantage and said whatever he liked because this diva couldn't focus let alone defend her behaviour. For instance: Whitney Houston showed more interest in the floor than she did in Dermot the X factor presenter. There was hardly any eye contact between the two, and then when she decided to lift her head and acknowledge him her eyes were transfixed on god knows what, but it certainly wasn't Dermot. Admittingly over the years she has been sick and recovered, but I ask you after watching her last night, is she still ailing?
A leading news paper said Cheryl was 'petrified' before going on stage and added that she looked like 'a terrified hopeful' as she performed, but give honour where honour is due her song and performance went down a bomb. There has been much debate rise from this where some folk branded her solo turn 'hideous' while others said her vocals were 'embarrassing'. Simon Cowell you were fibbing weren't you - you "naughty boy." Whitney Houston has battled drug addiction, got over a marriage break down and bounced back. My advice to Whitney is to keep on singing and avoid talking because then you won't give reason for people to talk.
It has been asked who the best singer was on the night between Cheryl Cole and Whitney Houston when they performed on the X factor stage. I can only say that usually the star of the show and the "BEST" singer is always left till last to come out and singing.
