Recalls can always be scary, but when it comes to baby food, nothing is scarier. Plum Organics is recalling its apple and carrot flavored baby food for fear of botulism poisoning. The product does not meet FDA standards.
Botulism is a serious paralytic illness. The baby food is sold in Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores. The recalled product is 4.22-ounce pouches, with a "best by" date of May 21, 2010. The UPC is 890180001221.
Baby food over the years has been one of the scarier recalls. Because of this, my friend has gone to making her own baby food. Those looking for a more "organic" baby food, might consider doing this method of feeding. She goes to the farmer's market every two weeks. Cooks the vegetables and fruits then freezes them in an ice cube tray. Every night before dinner she takes out a cube to defrost and microwaves for warmth if needed.
As her son grew, he became a non-picky toddler because the food tasted the same. In fact, one time on vacation, she tried store bought food and he stuck his nose up at it gagging. Kind of makes you wonder what is in it. Anyhow, this is the only safe way I know to avoid recalls. Otherwise, make sure you check out recalls.gov periodically to make sure your food is not on the list.
Dried Plums Recalled
The Texas Department of State Health Services is warning consumers not to eat certain imported dried plums and products containing imported dried plums because they have elevated levels of lead.
Pretty scary to think that lead is in our dried fruit. The government wants to stress that it is only on imported. The U.S. plums are safe! They are currently working on investigating the source of the plums and stress that they are typically sold in Asian and Hispanic markets.
Spring Rolls Recalled
Hannaford Supermarkets has taken the precaution of removing Taste of Inspirations Vegetable Spring Rolls from its freezer cases because the rolls may contain shrimp, which was not listed on the ingredient panel.
Beef and Bean Burritos Recalled
Windsor Foods, a Riverside, Calif., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,268 pounds of beef and bean burrito products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. Butcher Boy Red Chile Beef and Bean Burritos is the brand name.
These are the most recent recalls. Be sure to check out recalls.gov for more information. You never can be too safe when it comes to protecting your family.
