WarpTalk

In this episode of TechTalk, WarpTalk's technology show, Bruce Horst, Danny Davids and Ben Morrish discuss Windows 7, which is being released this week.

Windows 7 has a redesigned task bar that promises to be sleeker and more intuitive than the current versions, and new ways for positioning and arranging your windows on screen.

Windows 7 is designed to make PCs start up, shut down, resume from standby, and respond faster. This would be great - my laptop with Vista takes a good 5 minutes to finish loading everything on startup, and a couple of minutes to shut down. My desktop PC takes more than 5 minutes to shut down!

It also has an automatic "homegroup" network function, which claims to automatically allow you to share photos (and presumably other media) to any other computers in your home, and allow all your home's computers access to your printer. All without you having to set it up!

WarpTalk is SearchWarp's new podcast.

WarpTalk hopes to do some interviews with SearchWarp members, so that everyone can find out a bit more about each other, and to do some audio reports on anything that has caught people's eyes in the news or right here on Searchwarp.

In the future, WarpTalk would also like to do some round-table discussions with SearchWarp members.

It is difficult to find a single piece of useful information in this so-called 'comment'.

"Windows 7 is faster and smoother than Vista" - well, XP is faster & smoother than Vista!
"Less tape and bubblegum". This is because there has been a major OS kernel update - this should have been mentioned.

What hard-nosed IT people are saying:
* Win 7 is not significantly faster than XP
* Win 7 *appears* to load faster than XP but it's fakery. The desktop presents on the screen earlier in the boot process, but behind that early desktop there are still many essential OS services busy loading. Did you ever try to run a serious program as soon as the Win 7 desktop appears? Hint: It won't.
* The majority of 'improvements' are *changes* not real improvements. They're cosmetic alterations to try and entice users to upgrade and spend their money.
* Some Beta and RC testers reported that Win 7 multitasking is not as stable as good old XP
* Around 70% of Windows users are still running XP. It is a solid and stable OS - why upgrade?

Suggestion:  Next time, get some real techos involved...

"there has been a major OS kernel update - this should have been mentioned" - Windows 7 uses a refined version of the Vista kernel.

70% of Windows users are still running XP, and it is solid and stable. Why upgrade?

Because XP is 8 years old, has an out-dated UI , lacks a lot of the security features present in Windows 7 (such as UAC), lacks support for 48-bit colour, lacks proper support for the latest hardware like solid state drives (no TRIM command).... the list goes on.

If people are happy with XP that's great.

If you want to make best use of the latest hardware and software though, XP isn't the best Windows option. Neither is Vista. Windows 7 is.

Some Beta and RC testers reported Windows 7 multitasking is just as stable as XP, and performs better due to more effective use of multi-core processors.

And DOS is faster and smoother than any version of Windows.  Are you still running DOS?  ;)  Anonymous, it sounds like you're one of those "hard-nosed IT people" you mentioned. That's great. Some time we'll have to sit down and chew the fat about the intricacies of Windows 7 versus Vista versus XP. However, the vast majority of our listening audience are NOT Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory", so they don't care about O/S kernels or the comparative speeds of multitasking. We use THAT terminology and we'll put the listening audience to sleep! So we speak to the average person who wants to know if he/she should upgrade to Win7 or not.

Whatsoever may be the latest changes, it is always protecting the Microsof's interest than the consumers and PC users!! That's.

The joke is running around - Windows 98 is far better than any other OS, for its simplicity; if compared Windows2000 too is better than the latest paid versions and the oldies suggest Vista the demon never to be used ... XP might be faster than any other OS but still it is in its infancies despite 8 years of existance. Why? The Microsoft concentrated on only making money through many Premium and paid versions than taking the clients interest in its heart. Patches, Service packs and many other security related matters weakened the the OS than strengthening. Hope they did some improvements to Windows7 to rectify the maladies.

Suggestion to the PC/Laptop users : Never go for any Vista OS whether Ultimate or Premium.... the blue screen error is killing already a many.
