Have you ever walked into a tree nursery or garden center in spring and seen amazing white and pink blooms that just took your breath away? Chances are if you have then you were looking at the flowering dogwoods. Dogwoods make a dramatic effect to any yard with its full flowering blooms.

The Flowering Dogwood which is also referred to as the Cornus Florida. Is a deciduous small tree that grows up to 33 feet and is taller than wide which sometimes is only 1 foot in diameter. The flowers are small in nature forming each individual petal or clusters which are green in the middle then branch out to white and pink. Some dogwoods are reddish pink, but almost a true red.

Dogwoods are an amazing tree and make a great addition to any yard. The dogwoods flower in early April to May. Birds and many other species of animals need the seeds as a food source. Flowering Dogwood does best horticultural in moist, acidic soil in a site with some afternoon shade , but good morning sun. They do not do well in full sun. When planting the dogwood you need to mulch the plant 2-4 inches deep to avoid the stem.

Dogwoods should be planted so that you can mulch around them so that no lawn mower or weed eater can hit or harm the tree trunk otherwise that leaves the tree susceptible to diseases and pest pressure.

Dogwoods look great anywherecolor sporadically throughout the yard or as a border along a driveway, walkway or around a business.

Dogwoods can be found in many places such as garden centers, tree nurseries or home stores. Dogwoods can also be ordered online. An online nursery will help you order anything that you want to purchase and make sure that it is delivered straight to your home. No more going into a store and trying to figure out how you are going to get a tree home in your car, you can now wait for it to get shipped to you.
