City
City
Sprawling, stretching
Beating, pulsing life blood
Shouldering a weight of nations
Home
City
Clamour and noise
Proclaiming, politics
Divided, united, confused.
Concrete
City
Smoke clouds of grey
Enveloping the night
Dizzying, overwhelming all
A Shroud
City
Manic movement
Arrivals, departures
Joy, sadness, greetings and goodbyes
Heart Strings
City
Birth, life and death
A revelling in time
Contemplating tomorrow's name
Always
City
Clamour and noise
Enveloping the night
Joy, sadness, greetings and goodbyes
Always
A Cinquain is a five line poem. There are various forms of the cinquain and one of the most common structures each of its lines syllabically. In my example above each stanza has two syllables (Line 1), four syllables (Line 2), six syllables (Line 3), eight syllables (Line 4) and two syllables (Line 5).
In addition each line is separated (loosely at least) into, Line 1 (Noun), Line 2 (An adjective describing line 1), Line 3 (Verbs or action relating to line 1), Line 4 (A description of emotions) and Line 5 (A synonym of line 1).
This particular poem has six stanzas; with the sixth refraining a line (in sequential order) of each of the other stanzas and this is called a
Garland Cinquain.
I hope you enjoyed this example.
