As I was reading the news this morning, I came across a news story about George Prescott Bush or "P" as he is called going off to fight in the war.
The Daily Beast is reporting that P's future political ambitions are on hold as his Navy Reserve unit is set to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan int he coming Weeks.
He had joined the Navy in 2007 stating that he was inspired by the service of his grandfather and former NFL star Pat Tilman. He said that he was disappointed when the press found out because he was hoping to keep it confidential and did not want people to think he was doing it because of politics.
Here is my thoughts on this story. One, I most likely would have never even stopped for this story, but something caught my eye then I found it so fascinating, I could not stop learning about this Bush.
What caught my eye? His picture. He looks so much like a Kennedy. It is kind of uncanny how much. I am not even for certain it is the JFK Jr. resemblance. It is almost like he looks like a movie star.
As the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and his wife Columba Bush, who was raised in Mexico, he has the dark handsome role down. His bio is impressive despite a few mistakes.
After high school, he attended Rice University in Houston, where, just like his presidential uncle and grandfather, he was a walk-on on his school's baseball squad, though he quit the team during his sophomore year. After earning a degree in history from Rice, Bush got a job teaching at a Miami-area agricultural community.
Can we say former teacher?
He then went on to University of Texas to attend law school. He met his wife Amanda Williams at UT. The two both practiced law in Dallas before moving to Austin in 2005. He now works as a partner in a real estate investment firm.
Pretty impressive, right?
Here are the mistakes. It is known that he was rejected by Yale, Harvard and Columbia for law school admittance. He also has an arrest record from being arrested at 18 for burglarizing the home of an ex-girlfriend.
Here are my thoughts. I think he represents those who work hard with these mistakes. He didn't give up after the rejections and became a successful lawyer. As far as the arrest, I think every man in America will agree that teenage boys do stupid things when it comes to girls.
I think this could be the Bush that changes anything negative in the family history. Many believe he will be the 47. I think with his Hispanic ties, service in the military, charisma and looks, there will be no stopping P when it comes to reaching the Presidential seat.
Republicans should be thankful that they have a future candidate worth stopping and taking a second look at since they have not in a long time.
However, only time will tell what the future of P looks like. Who knows what his ambitions will be like after seeing war up close.
Nicely done, yet sadly I don't think anyone with the name Bush will be elected anytime soon. The amount of vitriol surrounding '43' all but precludes another Bush from entering national politics. Would be interesting, though.
