Motivate Our Youth

After spending some time researching the internet to find a true category for my music I found that according to the powers that be, I am an alternative rapper. That's right; I had spent a lot of time trying to brand "Motivational Rap" as a new genre to describe the work that I make, along with others who create rap to motivate people. As I looked in the various sites to read up on the musical categories I found that "Alternative Rap" is described as rap music that does not follow the traditional trends or "gangsta" lyrics.

I was really surprised that people have gotten so accustomed to gangsta rap that everything else would be considered "Alternative". WOW. That's like if everyone started wearing their socks on their hands, would the people who still wear socks on their feet be considered "Alternative dressers?". We have been conditioned to believe that alternative means "bad". Just like when children get kicked out of school, they have to go to an alternative school. But even though the description may be different, the meaning is definitely cool. So when I read a bit more I found that some mainstream artists such as OutKast, Kanye West, and A tribe Called Quest, are considered alternative rappers. After more research I found that this music is enjoyed by all ages all across the world. So now that I have found my home in the music world I can now focus my mind back into the studio to create. But before I go I must ask you the question; Do you like alternative rap? http://www.MarcusParker.com
