As the popular saying goes prevention is always better than cure. One neednt panic a lot about the spread of swine flu. With proper precautionary measures it is quite easy to prevent the disease and not have to suffer from it. So what do you have to do? Just follow the listed measures, protect yourself and your loved ones and bid a bye to the panic.

1. Avoid contact with pigs.

2. Swine flu is a communicable disease. So use face masks to prevent getting affected by swine flu antigens.

3. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, and use tissue when possible. Rememebr to throw the tissue away after using it once.

4. Avoid visiting crowded places like theaters and malls as much as you can. They can be the spreading ground for Swine flu. However, don't stop yourself from going out to do necessary work!

5. Maintain good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of virus. It would be better to use alcohol sanitizers or antiseptic for washing hands. Hand sanitisers could work very well if you do not have access to soap.

6. Take special care of children because they are more prone to catch the infection.

7. Avoid eat-outs because the food may be contaminated and risky. Make sure you go to places that are clean and hygeinic if you must.

8. Don't use public urinals as far as possible as they are a big source of germs and infections of all kinds.

9. Drink only boiled, or filtred clean water.

10. Clean hard surfaces (e.g. door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product. This will make sure the virus doesn't grow on the surfaces that come into frequent contact with your hands.

11. Avoid close contact with other people as much as possible, especially those that have a fever or a cold.

12. Wear a surgical mask if you are in contact with other people.

13. If you are ill with fever and other swine flu symptoms like cough, see a doctor immediately.

14. Before you travel, find out what vaccines you might need and where to get them from. Visit your family doctor at least six weeks before your departure date. This is not just for swine flu, but for all other infections and diseases as well.

15. If you get sick when you are traveling seek medical assistance quickly.

16. Stay home whenever possible.

17. If you develop a fever of 100.5F or higher call your doctor right away and start drinking plenty of fluids. Stay well hydrated and get a diagnosis and treatment soon.

18. Avoid people who have fever, cough, or sneezing, or complain of any flu-like symptoms.

20. Avoid leaving your home while sick with the H1N1 flu except to get local medical care, or as instructed by your doctor. Do not go to work or school while ill with H1N1 flu. If you must leave your home (for example, to seek medical care) wear a surgical mask to keep from spreading your illness to others.
