Today in a new millennium, that we as the people of the world all share together what have we learned thus far through the years.
Oh sure our history books are filed with what we have experienced, accomplished, and overcome.
"Human history begins with man's act of disobedience which is at the very same time the beginning of his freedom and development of his reason." Erich Fromm
Erich Fromm
We have evolved through the centuries "by learning" as we tried to conquer the arts of civilization. We fought in many wars in our never-ending quest for domination, freedom and peace on earth; many have died with questions that were unanswerable.
Yet history keeps repeating itself it seems as though we never learn through the mistakes we made on our journey through this life. Will we ever learn how to live as a civilized people?
Peace is the goal of the entire human race with the exception of those whom are intent on destroying the dreams of peace and harmony and replacing them with chaotic schemes of annihilation the evil that lurks within.
Here in America we are committed to fighting terrorism, tyranny and oppression abroad. However, we must also fight domestic violence, greed and corruption amongst ourselves. For as Abraham Lincoln put it "A house divided against itself cannot stand."
Of course, Lincoln was referring to the division of the north and south on the issue of slavery. Only today, in America as we divide ourselves as a people on so many diverse issues from political to religious to industrial and business we find all these factors dividing us as a nation however, our constitution unites us in a common bond through our laws.
Freedom has many interpretations and to some of us here in America freedom is still a distant dream. For true freedom comes when we as the people of the world live together in peace and harmony amongst ourselves and work and play side by side.
"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man's life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom." Albert Einstein
We will know in our hearts as well as in our minds when true freedom is upon us. For freedom is more than doing as one pleases, i.e. living for the pleasures in life. We are as human beings a part of creation living beyond the confines of our natural world.
As we evolved (not referring to the evolutionary theory) i.e. progressed through the centuries learning from trial and error also through experience.
We have triumphed over major epidemics from our research in cures for diseases. We have discovered medicines and vaccines to cure illnesses.
Imagine putting our talents towards improving all aspects of our living conditions. We would not only find cures to various illnesses but we could rebuild our infrastructure to meet the challenges of today as well as tomorrow.
When we as a people live by our natural inborn abilities rather than our crude nature then we can discover ourselves. Forced to toil at many unskilled jobs many of our gifted citizens do not have the means of acquiring a position in the field of their expertise.
Yes, even here in America money leads us beyond our capabilities for money still rules our lives. The Bible states that "the love" of money (not money but rather the LOVE OF MONEY) is the root of all-evil. Imagine if the realities of this life would not keep us bogged down from following our dreams.
We as a people could contribute so much more of ourselves if we were free from the greed and corruption that still haunts our lives. If we were, free to use our human resources to solve our problems and give of ourselves. "Freedom is to serve" Dave Tanguay
