If your trying to advertise your business online, always check your internet marketing statistics carefully. Of course marketing data mostly refers to the overall industry more than just your individual marketing labors, what you're going to be most concerned with are the statistics that pertain only to you and your business right now. Marketing data covers everything from how many hits your website has had,to how well a new advertising promotion is doing and if its getting good CTR, to how many of those click-throughs in fact buy something or sign up for your mailing list so you can get in touch with them later on.

This of course is essential info for your marketing efforts, this is the only way to recognize if your plan is practical or not. For example, using your internet marketing statistics you could quickly see if your latest advertisement has gained your site any fresh vistors, and of that additional traffic you receive if none resulted in sales you'll want to review paying for that advertisement there again. Perhaps your ad is unproductive, and it could be that it's just not a profitable place for you to advertise. Try an ad there like one you've used somewhere else with good results, and see if the same thing happens. if this also fails, then the market is in all probability just not right for your product or service. If the new ad gets you some sales and more traffic you`ll recognize it was the last ad not effective for you and not the market.

If you don't keep a good eye on your internet marketing statistics, then theres no focus and your just guessing. Successful internet campagins are not run this way. Is one of your links receiving huge amounts of traffic, but few are following through and signing up for a list or buying? It's still possible that it's just not the market for you, is the content designed to make people sign up in your optin box, is it persuasive enough ?

You've possibly had your website search engine optimized for certain keywords pertaining to your business. Type them in to a few different search engines and see if your site is in the top 10 or so listings. If it's not on the front page of listings, most searchers won't see it at all because so few ever click as far as the second page of outcome, unless necessary. Page rank is one of the more key internet marketing data you can monitor, right along with link performance.

Split testing and analysis are important for successful marketing campaigns. This is time tested and just as relevant for the digital world as it was for the paper world. Thanks for sharing your information.

Jim,

Good advice for those looking to up their rankings. I was blessed to have a great website guy when I went online in '99 and my placements are very good without having to advertise. Today, my husband and I keep it going.

The secret for many is hiring someone who is knowledgeable about this area. It can make quite a difference in their online success.
