Once again I am sitting in the ED, waiting. This is the second time in as many weeks that I have started my shift as usual, and ended up here- with chest pain and a ridiculously high blood pressure.
And, once again, I am dealing with a Nitro headache.
In between ED visits I have seen a doctor, gotten back on meds for BP, picked up a new script for anxiety, and had a treadmill stress test.
As yet I have no real answer. So, I am doing the one thing that always makes me feel better.
Writing.
It's a little weird. I am using my Blackberry, which I have used before to submit articles, even with "Wall-to-Wall.". This is my first time writing with wires attached to me, however.
Why "Chest Pain Shuffle?"
Why not? Right now I can't think of a better phrase to describe what I'm going through. And, at this moment, I don't know what is yet to come.
The nitro patch is doing its job- my BP is down. Still waiting for the Dr.
Was it the Little River Band that sang "Time for a Cool Change?"
Sorry to hear of your problems. I had severe chest pains in 1990 which resulted in three angioplasty procedures and finally bypass surgery. I've done well since. Also, they have made tremendous strides since then. They can usually take care of a blockage now with stents. So don't dispair, a good physician can get you straightened out. Hope you are better really soon.
Thankfully my chest pain was never severe. My doctor has pretty much ruled out any cardio factor, might be a sleep issue. I'm having a sleep study tonight.
Thank you so much, Joel, for your wonderful thoughts!
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through - as a medical personnel type I KNOW how hard it is to be on the WRONG side of the exam table (laying on it) Ironically, I just posted a piece on MI vs esophageal spasms - interesting we are both focused on chest pain today - Lord, please touch Ken in a mighty way - give the docs wisdom and help my brother to be healed in the most wonderful name of our Great Physician, Jesus. AMEN!
Ken, I hope the chest pain shuffle is over, and you are home enjoying your day. I think you brought up a great point - maybe writing is the best medicine for writers.
No EKG abnormalities, no cardiac enzyme issues, etc. "follow up with PCP," blah, blah, blah. My doctor is awesome, though. She is going to get me fixed up, I'm sure. Add to that a loving, supportive wife- how can I go wrong?
It's a stress issue, long time in the making.
Will undergo a sleep study tonight. That could be the major factor.
Thanks again for the prayers. They are getting through!
First off, my thoughts are with you and I'm sure everything will be fine. Can't discount all the good thoughts of all of us Warpies. :)
Secondly, my husband doesn't experience chest pain, but he does have an arrhythmia caused by his anti-depressant. Just something to think about because you mentioned taking an anti-anxiety med.
Have you considered meditation for your stress. e. raymond rock could help you will that, I am sure.
I feel truly blessed to have the support of the SearchWarp family. It is an honor to be counted among the citizens of a true "Writers Community."
I started the anti-anxiety med at the same time as the BP med- after chest pains started. I believe my problems stem from a combination of sleep apnea and excessive job stress.
Thank you so much, Dianne. Your concern and support mean a lot!
You are a great writer. Even with the pain you are feeling, you still write a very well-articulated piece. My prayers are with you and hope that everything will be fine and the results are good. Get well soon.
Hi Ken, sorry to hear about this and will be sending prayers your way. Many of us are high-performance even when not working in a high-performance culture ~ try to slow down a little there and can't help wondering where you are at with the caffeine jump-starting. They do have marvelous blends of 50-50 and remember that you can throw a small turkey boob in the crock pot without all the fuss of roasting one and the tryptophan will help calm us down. Keep us posted. May God's blessings and healing be with you always! Suzy
I will say this again. Publish and you can throw away the patch. You should be writing for profit. Since that isn't going to happen today, I recommend breathing. (I am serious.) I had a client who, when he was on his exercise bike in the morning, found his blood pressure dropping if he practiced breathing diaphragmatically. It works and is the best means of reducing stress.
Hey Bro. I'm sorry you had the experience, but I am happy you have grasped your purpose. It won't be easy plunging into your life's mission, however, it does seem that it is necessary. I will be praying for God's strength and guidance for you and of course, as an admirer of your work, I will be reading. Take care Ken.
