Well, wearing earrings, as many people believed and still believe, is not just confined to females. If starlike studs beautified with different colors can turn a plain Jane into a glamour queen then easygoing yet stylish hoops or studs can, very outstandingly, enhance a man's look. In old times, men's earrings were seen as an art form. This is writ large on the nineteenth century carved figures of men with earrings, in particular of Persian line of descent, displayed on palace walls. In other areas as well, including India and Egypt, religious heads, pharoahs and kings respectively were seen flaunting men's earrings. Earrings for men were also popular in Assyria and Babylonia for indicating their position in society.

In earlier days, metal men's earrings were looked at to save an individual from devilish spirits. Such ancient beliefs demonstrate why silver and gold hoops were among the most favorite men's earring style. Ear-lobes were possibly man's 1st choice in body piercing. In year 1991, the oldest mummified body on planet was excavated in a Glacier in Austria. According to the tests carried out, the body was more than 5000 years old; it had pierced ears with holes that were enlarged to 7 mm to 11 mm diameter.

In the west, the enchantment of earrings among womenfolk can be traced to the 1920s in Western Europe. As regards the men's earrings in the western world, piercing of ears began to gain ground towards the mid-twentieth century. In the earlier times, ear piercing was done with the aid of safety pins for creating holes in the ears. However, in recent times improved alternatives are being employed for example ear guns to put earrings in peoples' ears. Furthermore, during the flamboyant 1980s, men's earrings became popular even among the well-known entertainers, musicians, athletes and performers ofttimes flaunting them. Normally, two kinds of men's earrings are available in the market - studs and hoops.

As ear piercing gained ground among men, many of them were found wearing a single stud in only 1 ear. During that time, it was looked at as a taboo for males to sport studs or hoops in both their ears, or in just right ear. Nevertheless, now you can spot a large number of men with more such holes in their ears than even some women! There are few who believe that men's earrings denote homosexualism. In fact numerous straight men merely like to wear earrings. Ear piercing is, in fact, a more or less worldwide practice for both women and men; it's just in the west that some people regarded it as womanish.

In historical times, men ornamented themselves with elaborate earrings even in the west. For Example, during the Elizabethan period of time numerous better-known menfolk including Sir Walter Raliegh, Shakespeare and Francis Drake donned golden earrings. It is debated, ever since the Roman Republic became more womanish with riches and luxury, earrings became exceedingly popular among menfolk than females!

Nowadays, it is not only nicely-groomed urbanites who are seen wearing men's jewellery, indeed, on the streets, men's earrings are considered to symbolize toughness. Several people think men's earrings play up sexuality, while retaining masculinity, ofttimes making a man look modern and quite snazzier. Be it diamond, platinum, gold or silver, or even semi-precious stones, men's earrings have become must-have parts of mens jewellery.
