Many of the U.S. citizens do not fully understand the constitution, as to how it pertained to the states when written. Before the constitution, each state or colony which had taken form was a totally separate and sovereign group. The constitution was written by the various representatives of those states, agreed upon and ratified by all the then existing states, for their security, prosperity and cooperation. It was never intended to make one sovereign body of all these states, simply a union of them for the above stated reasons. They spelled out the things whose authority could be vested in the federation and then, in the tenth amendment, specified that all other such things would remain under the authority of the sovereign state government.
Actually, there are not many things specified as being given to the authority of the federal government. However, over the years the federal government has usurped the states authorities from right to left which has grown our federal government into a monstrosity of monumental proportions, causing the taxpayers tremendous burdens. And also, forcing restrictions and laws upon them which should have been left to the voters of the individual states.
Several of our political minority parties press these points, but the public has become so enamored with federal government promises of handouts (which the public has to pay for) and have become so brainwashed that they feel there is no other way for a country to exist. Even though it is presently foundering for it's final breath.
The above information is introductory remarks for the present very serious actions which are taking place. When the present administration took office on January 20, this year, it very soon became obvious that things were occurring by simple executive order of the president which should be left entirely up to the fifty individual states. A number of states began to take the action of passing a resolution proclaiming their sovereignty and asking the federal authorities to cease and desist from usurping such authority. Any comments from the administration officials which have been received, to my knowledge, have been only sarcasm.
Recently, after subtle inferences and rumors that the second amendment was about to be circumvented, two states, Tennessee and Montana have passed bills concerning gun laws for their citizens which involve only guns manufactured and kept inside the particular state. Once they have crossed state lines, federal laws do apply.
The federal authorities have denied that the state laws are valid but that firearms come under federal laws regardless of whether or not they or involved in interstate commerce. This is a blatant rejection of plain constitutional language. It only goes further to show that this administration considers our constitution as outdated and may be circumvented at will.
