Thanksgiving is a great American holiday. People will travel far and wide to be with their family. Hugs and kisses are part of the get-together. Those little germs and flu viruses are also ready to change partners if you let them. I would recommend keep the hugs but skip the kissing.

One crucial rule to follow is wash your hands before eating and that includes eating the appetizers that are served before dinner. Children aren't so great at remembering to do this, so remind them to wash their hands too. If you are not able to soap up your hands, use hand sanitizer.

Just think about it for a moment. You may have touched these objects and maybe many more: Doorknobs, cell phones and land phones, keyboards, cars, elevator buttons, light switches, photo albums, TV remotes, etc.

Keep your sneezes and coughs out of the air and into your elbow or a tissue. The elbow does not handle things so the germs will not be transferred to someone else. Of course throw away the tissue and then wash your hands. Hostesses can use disinfectant wipes before and after their guests. We are not saying become a Germaphobe, just be aware and practice prevention. Your friends and family deserve to stay healthy.
