The bench press is probably one of the first weight training exercises that comes to mind when you try to think of one.  It is a majorly loved workout.  Theoretically, bench pressing is supposed to help define your triceps and pectorals.  However, it is often done incorrectly which is detrimental to muscle growth.  Continue with this article and learn how you can maximize your bench pressing efficiency.

Keep this in mind, bench press should not be your ONLY exercise.  You won't believe how common it is for a newbie to dedicate their entire day working the bench press.  If you want to get the best results from bench pressing, you will need to build up your tricep muscles.  Some of the great tricep workouts are as follows: close grip pushup, close grip bench press, tricep dip, and tricep extension.  With greather tricep strength, you will be able to control the bench press bar better and have a more effective workout.

I've noticed having bad form when bench pressing is common among the common people.  A mistake that I admit I used to do is locking out my elbows.  You should not lock out your elbows because all of the weight should stay on the chest and could damage your elbows otherwise.  Getting the right grip is another thing you should work on.  Find out if you're gripping the bar correctly by making sure your arms create ninety degree angles when the bar lowers to your chest during the bench press.  If the arms create a 90 degree angle, I know I'm holding it fairly correctly.  Bouncing the bar off your chest is also a common bad habit.  If you hope to make your exercise as effective as possible, stay in control of the barbell.  Weight train slowly with control and avoid the bar bouncing off your chest as it can cause some major damage.

In the end, I think the best way for one to stay consistent is to find a workout program.  Discipline is hard to keep when facing tough workouts, and I think finding a solid routine is the best way to keep you in check.  You can reach your goals easier with a routine because you'll know what you have to do each day to get the workout you need to end up successful.  A routine can either be self-made or assigned by a professional or coach.
