Having trained bartenders and helped them get jobs since 1968 we have found that some of the best positions are with hotels throughout the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia region.
Compared to most other bartending jobs, hotels normally offer higher base salaries, provide health benefits, and often travel benefits for their hotel chain. Additionally the hotels host meetings, conventions and parties offering a wide range of opportunities for bartenders to be busy and earn significant tips. Major hotels in the region’s business areas maintain high occupancy rates during the week. Hotel customers fly into the region to do business and consult with DC based clients and are often captive clients of the hotel restaurants and bars.
Some unique aspects of hotel bartending include some of the best opportunities for day shift bartending income, excellent opportunities to earn significant income in the early part of the week from Sunday through Wednesday, and frequent opportunities for catering and parties throughout the year. In fact, a number of hotels regularly hire from our party staff to augment their catering events. Additionally, more and more hotels develop excellent dining that becomes a haven for neighborhood dining or after work food and drinks. Strong hotel bartenders develop regulars, as do the bartenders in any restaurant or bar.
The Washington region supports an enormous number of hotel rooms that span the area including significant number of hotels close to its three major airports near Baltimore, Dulles, Virginia and Reagan National located just outside of Washington DC. Downtown DC is a hotel Mecca and the Tyson’s Corner area in Virginia is additionally an area with many hotel rooms and extraordinary accommodations.
