One major misconception about golf is that working to improve your swing has no benefits that one should strive for the "perfect swing".
Well, there is no perfect swing as each person needs to find what works
well for them. There are many steps that can be taken to improve your
golf swing though.
To start, one must figure out what they are currently doing for their
swing. Video taping what you are doing will allow you to watch for any
mistakes you are making. Using video will make it much easier to improve your golf swing. There are many small problems that can be watched, but mainly there are a few big problems that need to be watched for first.
Posture should be first and foremost on the list of problems to watch
for. You should be loose and relaxed, not tensed. Another thing to keep
in mind is the placement of your hips and shoulders they should be
parallel to the ball through the entire swing.
While this last point is up to debate, I find I have greater success keeping my front foot even with the ball,
as compared with the ball being evenly between both feet. Once those
major things are taken care of, it'll be much easier to isolate
problems with the rest of your swing.
Movement is the other major part to focus on to improve your golf
swing. Smooth, fluid motion is one of the most important aspects of the
swing that is forgotten. Your arms should go back nice and smooth with
the club, keeping your hips and shoulders parallel to the ball pause
for a moment at the top of your swing.
Then, bring your arms back down in the same fluid motion. Once the ball
is struck, follow through all the way, as the club should make a full
circle from the start to the finish of your swing.
Once these major fundamentals are taken care of and are followed, it
makes it much easier to improve your golf swing. There are always small
adjustments that can be made to improve your golf swing to the point of
near perfection, for you anyways. While there is no one perfect swing,
with these steps, you'll be well on your way to finding yours. -Tim B. Miller
