The most influential person in my life is in the personage of Jesus Christ. My encounter with Jesus was a turning point for me. It is almost impossible to find words that adequately describe this encounter. I have always attended church. I was considered a good person a fair student, and I obeyed my parents. I knew of God, but I had no real relationship with Him. I was told stories about Him. I read books about Him, but I considered the Bible and church attendance merely a formality Something required of all believers for whatever reason.

In my introduction to Jesus, I was told that He once walked the earth as a man and that He was born without a real home. He was actually born in a stable. He grew up to be wise beyond His years, in a world of indifference.

His life on earth was short lived because the world did not want to believe that He was the expected Savior of the world. They did not understand Him and did not want to accept the good He wanted to bring to the world. He wanted us to believe in an all seeing and all knowing God. He preached what is good and righteous and wanted everyone to live a sin free life. He was persecuted for preaching the word. No one wanted to believe that He came to save us from ourselves. He was tried and convicted of the crime of treason and sentenced to death on an old rugged cross. Consequently, He hung bled and died on that cross.

Jesus did not want to endure this torture and suffering but He knew He had to suffer so that the world might be saved. He wanted to do the will of His Father. The thought that He would go through all of that torment for me just blows me away. I cannot think of any greater sacrifice. His flesh died but He promised to return to us in spirit. He kept His promise. He came back and promised never to leave or forsake us.

The day I accepted Him as my personal Savior, I accepted Him at His word. I believe that He is everywhere at the same time. I can follow the path that He has mapped out for me through His Word, the Holy Bible.
