DoodleBugs GoldenDoodles

I am sure we have all seen the hottest thing going on the market as far as dogs go-The GoldenDoodle.  GoldenDoodles are a first generation hybrid breed.  The GoldenDoodle requires a PUREBRED Golden Retriever and Poodle parent.  As a breeder of these WONDERFUL dogs, I am so upset to see the quality of some of the Doodles that are being turned out lately.  Being in high demand has proved profitable for some breeders.  I have noticed lately that some breeders have taken to using poor quality parents to create the Doodle and in turn charge astronomical fees for them!  This is disturbing to a breeder of nearly 30 years, like myself!  I have worked so hard to  perfect the bloodlines of my Goldens and searched long and hard to find a QUALITY Standard poodle to create the cross that is not only BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY and KIND, but truly a quality bred cross.  These "back yard breeders" have the potential to make us all look bad.  Most of my buyers searched for a dog that was not only beautiful, but shedless.  I wanted to breed the GoldenDoodle because I have a love for the Golden Retriever and wanted to provide a Golden that was relatively shedless.  After much research and a little more research after that we had our first litter.  It wasn't until lately that I started to notice that the breed is being abused.  So-called breeders using lesser quality dogs and charging higher prices for their puppies.  I have also seen some lovely dogs from lovely kennels, please do research the breed and do a lot of searching and questioning before settling with one particular breeder for your new furry family member.  You need to make sure the breeder knows a history of their dogs, only then can you be sure you are getting your money's worth and a dog that you can trust with your life.  This cross should not be aggressive and if you find one that is...RUN the other way!  Check out the breed standards for the parent breeds, this will aide you as your puppy grows not only will you get a general idea of what to expect, but you will be sure you are getting a dog from quality lines.  Don't settle for less, you deserve the best...it is out there waiting to be found by YOU!

You are a breeder and should stop using this article to attack other breeders like yourself. PRices will vary according to the amount of time, energy and money it costs the breeder to perform his/her job...NO decent breeder makes money from breeding!

I do not think that this article was an attempt to bash other breeders but mearly to express a concern for the breed as it grows. Who knows, this article may be what makes the difference between a GOOD dog experience and a bad.

First of all, lets call this article for what it is. A cheap shot taken at other breeders because you feel competition knocking at your door. There is no way you've spent 30 years creating or breeding a Goldendoodle. The Goldendoodle became first known in the United States in 1997 and has steadily become popular over the years because of the low shedding. You don't go into detail as to how you've "refined" your Golden Retriever lineage. Does this mean you back-breed? Line-breed? Inbreed? YOu have a "love for the Golden Retriever" yet you created Goldendoodles. Huh?? The Goldendoodle is no more in demand than any other dog in the world. That would be like saying "Gold is in demand and I'm so mad about the high prices being charged". If you are mad about what other breeders are charging, has someone tied your arms behind your back so that you can't collect the same price? We began creating the Goldendoodle in 1999 before this hybrid EXPLODED in the market world. Now there is a Goldendoodle breeder on nearly every block selling this hybrid for as low as $250 each. Everytime someone places an ad for Goldendoodles and its close to where the OTHER breeders are, the prices are marked down because it then becomes a "price war" between breeders. As we predicted back in 1999, the Goldendoodle is finding its way to the same madness as the purebred dog. Tossing sand in the eyes of your fellow breeders doesn't make you better. It's expensive to raise dogs. Since 1996, we've watched our puppy vet checks go from $15 per puppy to $105 per puppy. We've watched our expenses climb through the roof; our electric and other utility bills sky rocketing...so who's profiting??? I'll tell you who. The vets are making a buck from breeders..decent bucks I might add; The dog food industry is making billions from breeders and other dog owners; The dog supply market is making billions in profits from breeders and other canine owners who buy supplies and "toys" for their dogs. Let's face it.....if your a breeder, your in business to make money. It's that simple. Some may make more money than others....but that's the way it is with all businesses. Welcome to America.
