To those interested in Body Art There is a newly appearing Facet of tattooing in the West that has slowly come to be popular with Westerners. This new Facet is actually an Ancient Buddhist Tradition in Thailand. It is known in Thailand as "Sak Yant", (Sak= to Tattoo the skin, Yant= Yantra a kind of geometrical design, believed to posess Magic powers of Protection. Since the Hollywood actress Anjelina Jolie recieved a Sacred Yant tattoo from the brahmin Yantmaster Aajaarn Hnuu, in Bangkok, this phenomenon has grown to be increasingly popular in the Western world. Yant tattoo is practised mainly in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.Myanmar (Burma) also has a historical tradition related with Yant.Although practised by Thai monks, the prayers tattooed around the Yant are written in Pali Sanskrit (original language of the Buddha), using Ancient "Khom", or Khmer lettering. The Tattooist and Anthropologist Spencer Littlewood has spent three Years studying under the monks of Wad bang Pra Temple in Nakorn Chaysrii Thailand, and has managed to uncover the secrets of Yant. he is in the process of erecting a website dedicated to revealing this to all interested parties.
