Leaving for College
Everybody was thinking about graduation day. Others were thinking about what college they were going to attend. I knew I was going to college, but which one, I was clueless. My friend is the one who mention to me about leaving to Our Lady of the Lake University at San Antonio, and I said okay not knowing what I was getting myself into.
I wasn’t aware it was a private university which meant it was going to be expensive. This university was also known to be in the bad side of town. It was too late, I had already registered. Once I got there, I did not want to leave the university because I was afraid and homesick. I remember my friends getting ready to go out for the night, and I was in my pajamas watching television. I did not have a car, so if I wanted to leave the campus I had to take the bus. I would dread going to the store because it meant I had to cross an old, abandoned bridge which had no pretty lake like it was supposed to have. Living in San Antonio was a totally different world from living in the valley all my life. I did not feel safe walking past the university campus. In my hometown, I would walk miles from school to my house and never had to look over my shoulder. I couldn’t wait till the year was over, don’t get me wrong it was a wonderful university to get an education, but I wish I had done things differently.
People should consider waiting from leaving their hometown right after graduation. Some people are too young and immature at the age of 17 or 18. Some people are given a choice of either leaving for college or getting a car to attend a college in the Valley. Now, I would take the car in a flash. There are great colleges to attend here in the valley and inexpensive. People need to research the college they want to attend instead of going along with their friend or friends’ idea, like I did. Think twice about the college you want to attend because this will determine your future.
